Church accuses Government of favouring Muslims

Church leaders have accused the Government of giving preferential treatment to the Muslim community because of "political correctness".

Parishes are being starved of state funds to help the poor as a result of money being diverted to other faiths, senior clergy told the General Synod, which is meeting in York.

A report endorsed by Dr John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, claimed that the Government had become "unbalanced" in its approach to faith groups.

It argued that the determination of ministers to tackle Islamic extremism in the wake of the London bombings on July 7, 2005, had led to a preoccupation with Muslim communities at the expense of Christian groups.

Subsequently, the report said, churches are facing a challenge to maintain their presence in poor parts of the country.

The report's co-author, the Rt Rev Stephen Lowe, Bishop for Urban Life and Faith, said that the Church of England had applied to the Department of Communities and Local Government for money to "enable us to support parishes".

"It seems as if political correctness by Government may defeat us," he said, adding that the Church was ideally placed to help improve social cohesion.

Archbishop Sentamu, who wrote the foreword to the report, What Makes a Good City, told the Synod on Saturday that it was important that Bishop Lowe had "not been shy of saying things to the Government".

"The Church has listened to his trumpet call," he added.

The report says that there is a "great deal of inconsistency in the way individual [Government] ministers deal with religious groups".

It continues: "Christian groups in particular have suffered irrational prejudice against their funding applications and a lack of understanding of the nature and sometimes fragility of the local church.

"There is a perception, perhaps justified, that it has been easier for Islamic groups to receive financial support than other faith groups."

Bishop Lowe claims that there have been numerous examples of local authorities inviting consultation with local faith groups and failing to invite any Christians.

"There can be little doubt that the terrorism agenda has seriously unbalanced government relationships with the faith communities," the report says.

"Ministers are left to pronounce from a position of ignorance at best, or prejudice at worst.

"Ministers and civil servants see their priorities focused on dealing with Islamic extremism and treating all the faith communities in an even handed way despite relative differences in size."

Philip Giddings, chairman of the Church's mission and public affairs division, expressed concern over the Government's attitude to faith groups.

"We have a huge challenge in sharing our work and vision with political leaders who do not share the same values and faith," he said.

"They are ignorant of it and we must shift the perception of the contribution made by the Church in building a better community."

Bishop Lowe said that the Church was committed to providing welfare to some of the most deprived and impoverished areas of the country.

"We must not become a comfortable Church for a comfortable nation, but a church totally committed to its continued presence in uncomfortable England," he said.

The Church published a report called Faithful Cities in 2006, which was critical of Labour's social policies.

Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, said at the time that whilst people had got richer over the previous two decades, the period had also seen "fear, racial tension and the tendency to treat neighbours as strangers".

Even before the final count-down of Iran’s June election – western leaders and Zionist-controlled mainstream media started condemning it a ‘fraud’ and blaming Iranian authorities of human rights abuses in handling the protest rallies (mostly funded by Washington to the tune of US$400 million and Israeli agents) in favour of the defeated candidate, Mir-Hussein Moussavi. However, the same idiots who cried “wolf” in support of Iranian protestors or Mayanmar government’s treatment of Nobel Peace Award winner Aung San Sui Kyi – have put duct-tape on their mouths when American Nobel Peace Award winner Mairead Corrigan Maguire along with first Afro-American Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney were kidnapped by Israeli Naval Force thugs on June 30, 2009 off the boat carrying some civilian aid for Gaza citizen while sailing within international waters.

A similar mute reaction was displayed by Washington in the case of American peace activist Rachel Corey 23, who was crushed to death by an Israeli military bulldozer while protesting against the demolition of a Palestinian home on March 16, 2003.

American administration should be the last one to point its fingers on Tehran for the so-called “human rights” – especially its horrible human rights abuses record at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay concentration camps and being the world’s largest jail population of “Six Million in Jail”.

In July 2004 – the Swedish “moderate” Islamic scholar Dr. Tariq Ramazan was denied entry to the US to join an American University (Notre Dame) as “teaching professor on Islam and peace”. He became a “threat to national security” for criticizing his Orientalist friends Dr. Bernard Lewis, Dr. Daneil Pipes and others for not criticizing Israel for its barbaric treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.

But, Tariq is not the only “good Muslim” kicked out by the powerful pro-Zionist groups – Cat Stevens, Ibrahim Ferrer, India’s top actor Shahrukh and Ramzy Baroud, editor of Palestine Chronicle, also received similar treatment by the US immigration authorities. Some of the other names I recall are novelist Graham Greene, Nobel Peace Prize winner Gabriel Garcia Marquez and India-born Canadian novelist Rohinton Mistry.

Former South African president Nelson Madela, a Nobel Peace Award winner, was stripped of his “US Terrorist” designation only a year ago. Senator Edward Kennedy was, also, flagged by the US ‘no-fly’ list. However, one of the out-spoken American against Israel – most harassed is world’s youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner Mairead Maguire at age 32, whose flight from Guatemala was directed to Ireland through Houston. On her return from Northern Ireland, she was detained for two hours and in her own statement after her release: “I was fingerprinted, photographed, and questioned about my nonviolent protests in the US against Afghanistan invasion and Iraqi war. They insisted I must tick the box in the immigration form admitting to criminal activities….”

Qatar-based Egptian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Qaradawi, was denied British visa for criticizing Israel and supporting Intifada 2000. Early this year, British MP and former Mayor of London, George Galloway, was not allowed to enter Canada on security reasons. He upset the pro-Israel Canadian Jewish Congress by leading an aid caravan to Gaza people.

The western mock concern for the well-being of Iranian protestors while at home make sure that demostrators are disregarded, denigrated or preemptively rounded-up as happened at the 2008 Republican National Convention.

EAST LONDON PRESS asks: What IS 'George Galloway’s Party on Tower Hamlets Council' about? Is it 'still a separate Party' or is it an extension of...?

This question has been forced by the events of the past month which has witnessed the many statements, public and not so public, about the Tower Hamlets Council’s ‘town clerk’, Martin Smith.

Most of the running in the ‘story’ has been done by the Conservatives. Nothing original has originated from the ‘George Galloway party’ on the Council.

EAST LONDON PRESS is not speculating when stating the fact that ‘former’ members of Tower Hamlets Council Respect group, like Shahed Ali, are on the record as having acted in concert with Abjol Miah, the ‘leader’ of ‘Respect’ on the Council to back the interests of elements allegedly associated with the ‘Bangladeshi’ ‘media’ in London .

And the same ‘leader’ of ‘Respect’ group on Tower Hamlets Council has been involved in the appointment of Lutfur Rahman ‘Ali’ to the Council, a ‘result’ that has been sought by the ‘Bengali’ group, for years.

Read the references to and also the distinction between ‘Bangladesh’ and ‘Bengali’ as very significant in context and historically. Even electorally.

Indeed, the public statements by ‘Abjol Miah’, shortly after the 4 May 2006 council election at which Miah became a councillor for the first time ever, have included a very clear line that has included a series of proactive assertions demanding the employment of ‘minority ethnic personnel’ to the Council.

On the face of it, that ‘sentiment’ may appear not only innocuous but also in accord with the received and the establishment line in Britain about ‘Diversity’.

So why is EAST LONDON PRESS asking the question?

The answer is that ‘George Galloway’ is still claiming to be separate from the Party of Blair and Bush that expelled him.

Yet the Tower Hamlets Council is very much in the grip of that Party’s undemocratic elements and influences and in the actual policy behaviour, the Council has got away with no mentionable opposition at all from the ‘Councillors from the Party of George Galloway’.

EAST LONDON PRESS is not speculating either about another ‘defection’ from the remaining group of the ‘George Galloway’ ‘party’ councillors. What we ARE doing is asking: what is the political point for the people of this part of EAST LONDON of there being these councillors claiming to be of a ‘different’ ‘political’ party than the Blair and Brown party?

EAST LONDON PRESS is very aware of the fictitious flurry of letters being allegedly written by more than one of those councillors. We do not publish to embarrass anyone. We publish to tell the truth on what is going on. So please Mr *******, do not issue another series of ‘letters’ and ‘comments’ in the names of the different councillors!

What Mr Backdoorandfrontdoor and other real leaders of the propaganda and policy in the ‘George Galloway’ ‘party’ have to do is to consider what it is that they are doing on the Council.

Collecting internal information about Tower Hamlets Council may be a desirable objective. But doing so by abandoning political opposition is not something that may attract the voting behaviour of the people who matter albeit only on one single day every 4 years!

EAST LONDON PRESS can foresee a very public disappointment may be in the offing for the people and the community.

What Cohen’s banal boast tells us about him is that he belongs to a parliament of political, mental, moral pigmies with no evident shame...
